Illustrating one of the twelve permaculture design principles for each month, gives you the time to absorb them. Each example includes an image and story of locally appropriate sustainable living and design.
This years cover features Kat Lavers’ deep litter system in her quail aviary, which breaks down into compost for the veggie patch at the ‘The Plummery’, a 280m2 (1/14th acre) urban permaculture system in Melbourne, Australia. With contributions from Good Life Permaculture, illustrator Brenna Quinlan, the Eco School and Village Dreaming – just to name a few.
Included is a planting guide that can help yield more productive crops and healthier plants by planning your garden activities according to the moon phases. What makes the permaculture calendar ethical?
The permaculture calendar is printed in Australia on FSC certified, chlorine free, 100% post consumer recycled paper using vegetable based inks.
Our printer recycles all e-Waste, printing plates, ink cartridges, paper waste and packaging and has reduced their energy use by over 50% since 2001. The vegetable based that we use don’t release unnecessary VOC’s into the atmosphere or require harmful solvents for clean up.
Once the calendar has reached the end of its life you can recycle or compost it, frame and hang the pictures, or keep the calendar intact as a reminder of the principles and important events over the year. It can also be used as a teaching tool to illustrate an example of each of the design principles.
The first calendar was produced for 2009 as a way to demonstrate the principles with practical examples, with images submitted from the permaculture community. While the production effort does a lot in limiting its impact on the earth and the people in the process, we’re also demonstrating the ethic of Fair Share by now donating 100% of profits of the calendar to Permafund, supporting permaculture projects internationally – with nearly AU$5000 contributed since 2013.
Permafund is a public fund that makes grants available for activities that demonstrate the ethics and application of the principles of permaculture.
