Description

The Tomato | Mushroom Cultivation | Natural Beekeeping | Seaweed | Wild Food

The skills that we learn bind our lives together. Do you want to learn how to grow your own vegetables? Or how to keep bees? How to forage for edible seaweed along the shoreline, or wild greens down by the stream? Maybe you’re curious about growing mushrooms or how to grow the perfect tomato.

We invite you to make these skills your own. Designed to be read with a pot of tea by your elbow and a notebook beside you, Milkwood draws on rich seams of knowledge and experience to bring the essence of these subjects to you in a friendly, let’s-get-going format.

At last! The book we’ve all been waiting for! Milkwood permaculture has been at the intellectual and practical forefront of all things growing, living and sharing for as long as I can remember. They have now blessed us with this stunning and knowledge-laden book that will doubtlessly become a dog-eared touchstone for anyone who enjoys getting their hands dirty and their belly fed.’ ~ Paul West, River Cottage Australia

‘This beautifully presented book gives readers the nitty-gritty guide for five diverse ways to nourish ourselves from stewarding nature’s abundance.’ ~ David Holmgren, co-originator of Permaculture

‘Finally, the ultimate self-reliance manual from premier educational facilitator, Milkwood.’ ~ Joel Salatin, Polyface Farm

‘A joyful guide to how to grow, eat and live in harmony with nature.’ ~ Indira Naidoo, The Edible Balcony

ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Kirsten Bradley and Nick RitarKirsten and Nick left the city to start a small farm called Milkwood 10 years ago, with a dream of living simply and within their means. Since then, they’ve been growing food, cultivating community and sharing skills for down-to-earth living wherever they’ve lived or travelled. They are passionate about re-skilling households and communities to create resilient, low-impact and positive futures that are accessible to all. Together, they’ve spent the last decade farming and educating thousands of students in permaculture skills and design. They now live with their son Asher on a small permaculture homestead in Victoria where they grow food, milk goats, keep bees, forage, teach courses and write books. www.Milkwood.net
